HCL Connections Ideas Portal

Welcome to the HCL Connections Product Ideas Lab! The place where you can submit product ideas and enhancement request. We encourage you to participate by voting on, commenting on, and creating new ideas. All new ideas will be evaluated by the HCL Product Management & Engineering teams, and the next steps will be communicated. While not all submitted ideas will be executed upon, community feedback will play a key role in influencing which ideas are and when they will be implemented.

For more information and upcoming events, please visit our HCL Connections page.

Open files directly in specific applications from within the browser

If users are receiving file links, the files get previewed within the browser. If they then want to edit the file directly in the specific application and not in the online editor the file needs to be downloaded, saved in an intermediate place and uploaded later manually to the specific location again.

If the desktop plug-in is installed it would be really useful to have the possibility to open a file not only in Online Docs, but also like SharePoint online directly in Word, Excel, ... from within the Browser.

Should that not be possible, also the possibility like in SharePoint with "Open in Explorer" would help to improve the efficiency of working with files and would make it easier for the end users if it would then open the specific folder directly in the Desktop Plug-in.

This actually exists IF the desktop plug-in is installed and a user wants to Edit the file. In order for this to work though, the admin has to set the corresponding flag to YES. See admin documentation.
