Yes, this is a valid idea, but harder to implement then it sounds. We are looking into enhancements on how external users are handled in general. But sorry, this is too big of a change to get it done this month :-)
It would be fantastic if this feature still comes for version 6 CR6!
In addition, inernal users should be able to @mention external users, especially when it is necessary to inform about changes or comments on files, especially.
