Handles of sub-communities usable only in conjunction with main community handles

Handles to a subcommunity can only be used in conjunction with the handle to the main community. I find this behavior surprising.

Example:

This community https://<hostname>/communities/service/html/communitystart?communityUuid=xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx has the handle CC1

This is a subcommunity of the community above: https://<hostname>/communities/service/html/communitystart?communityUuid=xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx It has the handle CC2.

Using handles, this community has to addressed as https://xyz.xyz.com/communities/community/CC1/CC2

It is not possible to use the handle of the subcommunity directly as in https://xyz.xyz.com/communities/community/CC2

It also forces one to add a handle to a main community if one wants to use a handle with a sub-community.
