Files - Allow users to change/transfer the ownership of a file

It is very cumbersome that files do not allow to have multiple owners and that ownership cannot be transferred. In case a user wants to hand over the responsibility for a file, this user at least needs to be able to make another user a co-ownership. The current setup - provide editor access is not sufficient, since the additional editor cannot assigned other editors.

I am still missing the user ability for this. So far, even with the shipped version this is an administrator feature (including the suggestion to use API and Timetoact's CAT) only, isn't it?

You can also do this with the Connections Administration Toolkit from TIMETOACT:
    https://connections-apps.com/product/connections-administration-toolkit-cat/
So there are APIs to do this already.

Hi Edward, yes we agree - adding and being able to everage the API is the first step. The end user UI is next.

Nice step but why not in end-users interface? This should be basic function guys

Where is the problem to allow multiple owners.

A community also has more than one owner

Hi Rene, How can we obtain the ICXT tool?

Fully agree, this has to be possible with the standard product in the cloud. ICXT is not an option.

    Dear Rene,

I think ICXT is not the best solution for this scenario, due to various reasons:

    • end users should have this functionality as well, not only admins
    • ICXT is not available in the cloud
    • this is such an basic and essential functionality in case of Administration, that it should not be necessary to purchase an additional tool for this

yes, I agree and we are still tracking this feature as Future Enhancement - but I wanted to make people aware that in some cases there is at least a workable solution unlike an earlier comment in this thread that there is absolutely no way of doing this. But yes - this makes a lot of sense for an enduser to transfer ownership for their content.

ICXT is aan Admin tool allows an admin to transfer ownership of a person's files to another person and is good when people leave the organisation but it doesn't solve the problem here. What we need is a way for users to be able to transfer or share ownership of particular files on an individual file basis by themselves. In a way that is easy to understand & execute without admin involvement. This is not possible with ICXT as far as I know and it's simply not feasible for environments with thousands of users to have an admin having to do this every time a person simply wants to hand over a file. This should be standard functionality in the product itself imo....

Hi Sharon, correct - it is an offering from IBM Services - I reached out to the team to make more information available. Besides this idea here it also handles a number of other scenarios to managing Connections. I have seen other ideas here in aha! that the tool addresses so raising the awareness on a broader basis will help many customers

The IBM Services team is offering a tool called the "IBM Connections Toolkit" which offers a number of extremely helpful capabilities, including assigning content from one user to another or to a Community. Please contact me for more information.

Not only for when user leave a company, if a user changes jobs but doesn't leave the company there is currently no way to give files to another user who takes over their old job. A copy can be given, but then all the collaboration history and old versions are gone, all sharing needs to be re-established, and any links/bookmarks that might have been embedded anywhere else are no longer valid. In regulated industries (e.g. banking, insurance) it may be the case that, when a user moves to a new job, they must separate themselves completely from content related to their old job to remain in compliance with regulation. In this case they have no choice but to lose all the history, etc.
