HCL Connections Engagement Center - News Slider Widget - Arrow Buttons are Taking too Much Space

Dear Team,

I would like to submit an enhancement request regarding the UI of the News Slider widget in the HCL Connections Engagement Center (HCEC).

The Problem: When the News Slider widget is placed into the smallest "box" within the HCEC layout/grid, the arrow buttons used for switching articles consume a disproportionate amount of space. Consequently, these arrows often overlay and obscure the actual news article content.

Business Impact: This UI behavior negatively impacts readability and the overall user experience, especially on pages dense with information where smaller grid boxes are necessary. Users are unable to read the full headlines or excerpts because the navigation arrows block the text, or part of the article image.

Proposed Solutions (for your consideration): To improve the user experience and prevent content blocking, we suggest exploring one of the following UI adjustments for small container sizes:

  • Alternative navigation: Replace the arrows with small pagination dots at the very bottom of the widget.

  • Repositioning: Move the arrows to the bottom corners or outside the main text container.

  • Scaling: Automatically scale down the size and opacity of the arrows when the widget detects it is in the smallest layout grid.

Thank you in advance for reviewing this request!
