have different permissions on different files/folders in community files

It is not true that in a large project group, everybody is allowed to see everything. Subcommunities add too much complexity so please add permissions to files and folders, based on roles and names. Some more roles would help anyways (like LOB manager, project manager, project managers assistant or project engineer or supplier or observer without any writing)

    This is a requirement from a centralised audit purpose. Single repository of content, but access to content restricts the membership for audit purposes. If we could have similar functionality as CCm where owners could specify, Read versus download, versus total block - All "Member", or individual members,

    You could use Box (or maybe CCM ) as Files Library in Communities. They should have the per file security feature you needed.

    Yes they cost an extra license but to be fair the above security requirement is also not very common.
