Welcome to the HCL Connections Product Ideas Lab! The place where you can submit product ideas and enhancement request. We encourage you to participate by voting on, commenting on, and creating new ideas. All new ideas will be evaluated by the HCL Product Management & Engineering teams, and the next steps will be communicated. Desktop Plugins: automatically clean up the registry entries before installing the newest version if any older version is already existing.

CHANGE REQUEST:

Build something into a new version of the installer which automatically cleans up the registry entries before installing the newest version if any older version is already existing.

REASON FOR CHANGE:
Customer has had problems getting plugins to work on some client machines after upgrading from an older version.
As a workaround, they found that uninstalling the old version, completely removing registry entries here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\Social Connectors\
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\IBM\Social Connectors\,
and then installing the latest version works.

To save all that work however, customer is hoping for a new installer which will completely remove any bad registry entries when upgrading from the previous version.

To us it does not seem feasible to delete all settings when installing a new version, since the user would than have to enter all those settings, e.g. downloaded/synch'd content, connected sites, followed Communities, etc again.
What we do consider is to add an uninstall option where the user can decide to delete everything or keep their settings/files with the uninstall.
