Support Custom German Date Format for Excel Files in Docs Viewer

Docs does not respect the date format (DD.MM.YYYY) in an uploaded Excel file. The date format changes to MM.DD.YYYY

How to reproduce:

  1. Set OS regional settings, Internet browser and Connections globalization settings to German

  2. Create a spreadsheet in Docs

  3. Enter a date in DD.MM.YYYY format in cell A1 then save it

  4. Export to an Excel file (File > Download > Microsoft Office format (.xslx)

  5. Open the downloaded Excel file

  6. Enter a second date in cell A2 (default format is DD.MM.YYYY) then save the file

  7. Upload the file to Docs and open via Docs

  8. Notice that:

    1. Cell A1 (created in Docs) - date format remains the same (DD.MM.YYYY)

    2. Cell A2 (created in Excel desktop app) - date format changes (MM.DD.YYYY)

Please provide a fix for this issue.
