HCL Connections Ideas Portal

Welcome to the HCL Connections Product Ideas Lab! The place where you can submit product ideas and enhancement request. We encourage you to participate by voting on, commenting on, and creating new ideas. All new ideas will be evaluated by the HCL Product Management & Engineering teams, and the next steps will be communicated. While not all submitted ideas will be executed upon, community feedback will play a key role in influencing which ideas are and when they will be implemented.

For more information and upcoming events, please visit our HCL Connections page.

Support for "Rocky Linux" as open and free LTS-Alternative to CentOS

Connections currently only supports CentOS/RHEL, which is EOL soon on June 30, 2024. CentOS has switched from downstream to upstream, so CentOS 8 will be hard for you to support and for us to administrative I guess.

Rocky Linux is a downstream alternative from the original CentOS founder, providing a free and open bug-for-bug compatible distribution to RHEL. They provide long support ranges, Rocky Linux (CentOS) 8 is supported until December 31, 2029.

What is the future strategy from HCL? I'd like to use a free and open community OS like Rocky Linux. And I think it's time for something more long term than just supporting CentOS 7. I'll install CNX 7 soon and should use CentOS 7, which means I can re-install the servers in less than 3 years just because of the OS? Since CentOS has no upgrade path like Ubuntu, this is unnecessary overhead.
